Every day at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern North Carolina, young people walk into spaces filled with encouragement, opportunity, and support. Behind those positive experiences are the volunteers who help bring our mission to life. Their presence offers consistency, compassion, and mentorship to the youth we serve—providing more than just assistance, but a meaningful investment in every child’s future.

Volunteers play a vital role in shaping the daily experience of our members. Whether helping with homework, organizing activities, offering guidance, or simply listening, they help create a safe and supportive environment where kids can thrive. The trust and relationships they build with our members contribute to personal growth, confidence, and a sense of belonging—key elements that carry into all areas of a child’s life.

One shining example is Mr. McPadden, a longtime volunteer whose dedication has left a lasting impression on our clubs. He visits  multiple times a week and supports students during Power Hour, helping with homework and tutoring. His ability to connect with youth and assist them academically in ways others may not is truly special. The kids eagerly look forward to his visits, often showing more excitement about homework simply because he’s there. His steady presence and guidance have become a source of motivation and encouragement for many of our members.

As we celebrate National Volunteer Month this April, we reflect on the incredible individuals, like Mr. McPadden, who dedicate themselves to the success of our youth. We invite others to join us in this mission. Volunteering is more than giving back—it’s stepping into a role that helps shape the leaders, dreamers, and changemakers of tomorrow.
